How does Tiger.co.uk work?
We work with a wide range of partners from big brands to small brokers to ensure we can provide you with a wide range of quotes. Tiger.co.uk asks every question that our insurance partners need to know in order to give you a quote. They are then able to provide a price based on your needs.
How do you make money?
Upon the sale of a policy, we receive a fixed amount of commission from the insurance partner who has sold the policy. We do not add any fee's and policy rates are not inflated to cover this fee.
What kind of thing affects the price of my car insurance?
Many things affect the price of your car insurance but probably the most important are the age of the driver, the type of car and the amount of no claims discount accumulated.
Do you cover modified cars, imports or kit cars?
Many of our partners offer specialist insurance for modified cars, kit cars and imports.
Why are your prices different from other aggregators?
Our prices should be fairly consistent with other aggregators since we all work in similar ways. However; different aggregators offer different levels of excess and make different assumptions, which will account for most discrepancies. When obtaining insurance quotes from an aggregator site, read the assumptions and check the excess levels so you know what the cover entails. We have tried to make the quote process as transparent as possible, but if you do have any feedback please let us know by submitting your comments.
What kind of insurance do you compare?
At the moment, we can compare car insurance and motorcycle insurance and we have partners that provide business insurance. Our intrepid and innovative IT have now completed our van insurance aggregator which will be worth looking at if you drive a van or HGV for business or private use.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to use a company that doesn't appear on price comparison websites?
Not necessarily, the cost of insurance varies from person to person depending on the individuals circumstances.
If I'm stuck, do you have a number I can ring?
You are welcome to call our friendly UK based call centre if you would prefer to get a quote over the phone. The number is: 0800 902 0600
Can't I save more money over the phone by negotiating?
You're welcome to try. We do provide phone numbers for all of our partners so you can ring them up and talk to them directly. We can't guarantee any saving though.
What sort of cover can I get?
We offer comparisons for third party fire and theft and for comprehensive cover. We also give you the option to include no claims protection if you have more than 4 years no claims discount. On our results page, you can also sort your quotes by other included features such as courtesy car, breakdown cover and legal cover. It is also worth having a look at the things included in the policy on the insurer's own site.
How do I know you're impartial, surely you promote some companies more than others?
Unlike many of our competitors we aren't owned or backed by any specific insurer, we are totally independent. We receive commission directly from the insurer once a policy has been sold, so it is in our interest to show you all the options available no matter who it comes from.
I have set up an account; how do I retrieve my details?
All you need to do is enter your email address and password on the login page. If you can't remember the password, either click 'show hint' to get the hint you chose or enter your email address and we can send it to you.
I don't know my registration number can I still get a quote?
We have an excellent car lookup system, which should make finding the exact make and model of your car easy. It is worth noting though, not every insurer will quote you if you don't know the registration number and you will not be able to purchase a policy without one.
How do no claims discounts work?
No claims discount is a discount you're given by the insurers based on the number of years that you've had a policy insured in your own name without making a claim. We have a dedicated page which explains this in more detail here.
Can you explain the levels of cover?
We will have a dedicated page for the levels of cover so where you will be able find out exactly what each level of cover includes.
How do I know what's included in the policy?
On our quote screen we have done our best to show you as much as we can about what's covered by the policy. You can also compare up to 6 policies in detail side-by-side. If you still have questions, the insurer sites should provide you with additional details and all optional extras.
Can you explain the various vehicle uses to me?
Commercial Vehicle Insurance is designed to meet potential risks faced by commercial van drivers – one known example being theft. i.e. drivers drivers using their vans in connection with their business.
Warning!: If you carry expensive tools of goods you will need a separate goods in transit policy.
Business use means if you use your car to drive to different sites away from your permanent place of work, for example, if you where a travelling salesperson, or if your employer has a number of offices that you need to travel to.
Commuting means travelling to and from a single place of work including travelling and parking at a railway station.
Social use only means that you do not use your car for work at all.
How far in advance can I get a quote?
Most companies will only quote a month in advance due to the perpetually changing cost of insurance. If you're shopping around and save your quotes on the site, we will hold them for two days for you, after which they will expire. However, your details will remain so you can easily log-in, check and if necessary change, then resubmit for an up-to-date quote.
