Founded in 1919 by a fellow named André Citroën, the Citroën brand has always been associated with avant garde and innovative design.
Citroën were the first European car manufacturer to mass produce popular cars. Citroën Type A came complete with a starter, lights and a spare tyre. The Type A was also one of the first French cars to have left hand drive.
Other innovations from Citroën include an all steel body kit, the first crash test (simulated by pushing a car off a cliff), hydro pneumatic suspension (so smooth that the BBC outside broadcast unit used it for their camera platforms), the first disc brakes on production cars and speed sensitive steering!
Now part of the Renault group, Citroën are still coming up with new ways to improve themselves with such things as the C6 active bonnet.
